About us
Richmond Churches Food Centre provides emergency food aid to people in need, bringing local churches, volunteers and community supporters together.
Our story began at St Stephen’s Anglican Church in the 1980s. Today, the centre operates behind St Ignatius’ Church, continuing a shared commitment to supporting our Richmond community.
Our beginnings
The food centre began as a mission of St Stephen’s Anglican Church in the 1980s, under Archdeacon Marjorie McGregor, Australia’s first woman Archdeacon. It served the community from the church and hall until 2008.
When those facilities became unavailable, St Stephen’s worked with Richmond Uniting Church and Richmond Catholic Parish to establish the centre at St Ignatius’.
Initially called Richmond Hill Churches Food Centre, it became Richmond Churches Food Centre as churches beyond Richmond Hill joined the partnership.
Our community
The centre is staffed by volunteers and administered by local church ministers. Donations of food and funds help sustain its work.
Our church partners include:
St Ignatius Catholic Church
St James Catholic Church
St Stephen’s Anglican Church
St Bartholomew’s Anglican Church
St Matthias’ Anglican Church
Richmond Uniting Church
We are also supported by local community groups.
Our logo’s story
The Langdon Memorial window at St Stephen’s, made by Bennets and Leigh in 1989, depicts Richmond landmarks and St Stephen distributing bread. It reflects the churches’ long tradition of working together to support people in need.
